Dāna | Helping Run The Centre
The Buddhist Centre is a registered charity and is run on an entirely voluntary basis. It depends on receiving donations to meet all its costs, such as rent, rates and electricity. However, the successful running of the Centre doesn't only depend on financial donations, it also depends on people giving ther time, whether it be to lead meditations, help run classes, or just general help to keep the centre clean and running well. It is with such generosity, or Dāna in Pali, that we are able to continue to run the Centre.
In the future we would like to buy our own Centre; this would allow us to move to a larger building, which would enable us to offer a wider range of classes and be more active in the local community.
This page covers how you can help the Centre.
Weekly classs
The suggested donation for the Wednesday evening introductory classes is £6.00 if you are fully waged or £3.00 if you are on a low wage. The suggested donation for the Friday lunchtime class is £3.00
Standing Orders
If you attend the Centre on a regular basis then you may decide to pay monthly by Standing Order, as this can may be chaeaper for you and helps the Centre with its budgeting. Gift Aid
If you are a UK tax payer you can gift aid your donation, whether it’s a Standing Order or a one-off. The government then adds 28p in the pound, at no extra cost to you.
Other ways of giving
There are many other ways in which you can help the Sangha; for example, helping out at the regular classes, or helping out at one of our maintenance days. If you are interested in helping out please speak to one of the Order Members.
The activities at the Colchester Buddhist Centre are run by the generous support of many of the people associated with the centre.
If you would be interested in helping out please talk to someone on the centre team.
